Increased security for international travel is at the forefront of policy
for many nations. The ability to positively identify individuals and make
it far more difficult to forge travel documents and identities is of paramount
importance.
A prime development is the addition into the back covers of many countries
passports of contactless smartcard technology. This will enable the passport
to store detailed biometric information, such as fingerprints or facial
or iris scans. In turn this enables positive identification of the traveller
to be absolute.
The International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, has set out
specifications for the new E Passports. Ecebs Multefile
technology is able to provide ICAO compliant products to produce
electronic passports. Moreover, these passports based on Multefile can
be upgraded after issue to maintain the security levels required.
