What is Multefile™ ?
Multefile™ is a multi-application smartcard technology, which offers material advantages to the card issuer.
- Multefile™ is software that resides on smartcards, in the terminals smartcards use and provides links through to back office systems.
- It allows smartcards to be changed after they have been issued, with new or modified applications and security enhancements to existing applications.
- Multefile™allows the niche marketing of new applications to card carriers who may initially have received their smartcard for a 'mass' application such as payment or transport.
- Being able to field upgrade fundamental items such as security de-risks your smartcard investment.
All this is done in a highly secure manner by smartcard scheme owners who don't have to be technology experts.
Multefile ™ in Operation
Multefile™ enables smartcards and terminals to be updated after the smartcard has been issued. This means that a card issuer could issue 10,000 cards for a transport application. Shortly afterwards the application could be amended to reflect a change in operation. 1,000 of the cards then have a school meal payment application remotely loaded onto them. A further 500 of the cards have a health club membership application added. The health club then wants a loyalty application provided to their most frequent users, 37 of the 500 have this application loaded. The original transport application is withdrawn and replaced by a new one. No cards have to be re-issued.
