June 2003 - Ecebs ISAMs make integrated ticketing a reality
Ecebs ITSO SAMs (ISAMs) were behind the successful demonstration of integrated ticketing when transport operators, equipment suppliers, local authorities and Government departments gathered in Nottingham for the 'Moving On' conference.
To demonstrate true ticket interoperability, ITSO built a smart card chip into the badges of all 215 delegates at the conference, which was hosted by Nottinghamshire County Council in association with the Department for Transport (DfT). Units of travel were loaded on to each smart card and delegates were encouraged to use their cards on exhibition stands showing the 'ITSO spoken here' sign and on buses used for conference transport. Two buses were fitted with static card reading machines and on a third a hand-held reader was used.
By the end of the conference, more than 500 transactions had been recorded using smart card ticketing equipment from Burall Info Systems, 'Cubic Transport Systems, Almex, ESP and others. This was the first time that smart card tickets with Ecebs ISAMS had successfully operated on such a wide variety of ticketing equipment.
