March 2005 - E Passports available using Multefile technology

The increased security requirements for international travel means that the use of Electronic Passports is greatly increasing. Contactless Smartcard technology is to be embedded into the back covers of the traditional passport.

This will allow much more stringent and effective automated border controls based on electronically secured ID and biometrics.
