Highly secure smart card file system debuts for Multos. "Ecebs delivers ISO compliant file system utilising RSA security to protect data. The Multefile systems can support broad uses where security and management of sensitive data is a priority" Scottish based Ecebs Ltd has announced a secure file system application for the MULTOS card operating system. Multefile protects information using a variety of authentication methods from the simplest PIN based to scheme to stronger asymmetric encryption, taking advantage of the MULTOS RSA cryptographic co-processor. This enables Multefile to manage the access and transfer of sensitive information over insecure communications channels. Providing a generic ISO-compliant file system, Multefile will find applications in immigration and passport applications, healthcare record management, social security and welfare information management, drivers licenses, education attendance and performance, and many others. MULTOS secure application load and delete coupled with the worlds most secure on card firewalls between applications allows sensitive information databases to co-reside with applications that require differing levels of security. Secure loading and deleting of applications also allows for more flexibility in card issuance and deployment, and even public/private partnerships between government departments and private enterprise, reducing the cost of card deployment and increasing the utility for the cardholder. Multefile allows the card issuer to set the rules by which data can be stored, accessed, edited and distributed. It ensures that only those who need to know information are allowed to gain access. Multefile cards can be used in on-line or off-line environments. The Off line case, enables mobile usage in situations where individuals may need to release information securely to third parties, but avoids the need for expensive infrastructure.
